My name is Heike Ullrich, and I am a photographer and visual artist based in Gothenburg, Sweden. I began exploring photography more deeply in 2020, and what started as a fascination with the camera and its possibilities soon became a very personal way of seeing, feeling, and expressing the world around me.
Curiosity is at the heart of my work. I love to experiment and rarely feel the need to follow one particular technique or style. Instead, I let the subject, the light, and often my intuition guide me. Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) is one of the techniques I enjoy working with, but it is part of a much broader creative process in which I explore movement, focus, exposure, abstraction, and different ways of transforming what I see.
My subjects are equally varied. I find inspiration in landscapes and urban environments, but also in still life and the small, quiet details of everyday surroundings. A fleeting light, a particular colour, the shape of an object, or an unexpected combination of textures can be enough to spark an idea.
What interests me most is not simply showing things as they are, but discovering what else they might become. Through the camera, familiar places and objects can shift into something more abstract, poetic, or dreamlike. I enjoy that delicate space between intention and chance, where I can begin with an idea but still allow something unexpected to happen.
Photography, for me, is a way of slowing down and looking more closely. It gives me the freedom to follow my curiosity and create images that reflect not only what I see, but also something of what I feel.
I hope my work offers the viewer a similar moment of pause—a chance to wander, to feel, and perhaps to discover something familiar in a new way.
